January Changes

It seems like just when I think everything is smooth sailing something changes!
For several months I've had low back pain, mostly in the morning, but it had gotten worse lately after starting yoga.

The first of the year was a good time to make an appointment and see if I couldn't get the problem resolved.

Turns out I have degenerative arthritis in my lumbar. To say I was shocked was an understatement. I really thought it was a pulled muscle. My first thought was I would be in a wheelchair and I wouldn't be able to be active any longer.

Both of those thoughts were WRONG, I'm thankful to report. I am seeing a physical therapists who assures me I can lead an active life without pain.

Staying active is one of the things you need to do with arthritis.
I took a walk this morning waiting for my car to be serviced and came across this staircase. Isn't it awesome?

Time to get my car... I will write more later about my responsibility to stay healthy with arthritis.

  1. Sorry to hear this..I was wondering if this was the issue. I go in tomorrow to a specialist to learn about my MRI results from this past week for my lower back...getting numbness in my right leg and right arm. For my arm, I have an extra rib that is attached to the C7 Vertabra (sp) oy...will see what happens..I do have to agree that when I walk, I feel better...until I go to bed and wake up the next day...oh the joys of getting older.

    Thanks for sharing.

  2. Gosh Lori, that must have been a scare. So glad it can be remedied. Take it easy and hope you get some pain relief from the therapy.

  4. Lori, followed you over from your Humble Quilts blog. You got me thinking about moving more. I have to fit more walking/moving into my daily life. Thanks for the wake up call!
