The Center of Oregon

We passed the center of Oregon heading to a high lake for camping and fishing.

13 miles of up, up, up. The view is amazing!

Love the old juniper trees.

The lake was in horrible condition with a lot of dead fish. Ew.... no thanks! We camped and the quiet was AMAZING. The stars were plentiful and beautiful.

We left and went to another lake.
We were back in the high desert and it was 85+ degrees.

The rock formations are really awesome.

The fishing was lousy, but I remembered how to drive the boat.

It was very nice to get away and we are hoping for one or two more weekends away.

Catching Up

I've been moving and staying busy, but here is my catch up post!

Lunch time at the Sisters Show. Sharon, Grass Roots Quilting met us with her friend Paula.  I have previously met Sharon in Bellingham on my first trip to the Seattle area. If everything works out I'll be taking a class with her at Two Thimbles with Gwen Marston. Part of staying healthy is forming good relationships! I love these ladies!!

Sunriver is the only place I'd throw my running shoes on with a skirt! lol
We were dealing with days of very hot weather and smoke from fires that started from lightening.
It caused my mom to have some breathing issues and gave us a little scare. The DEQ declared our town unhealthy for all people. I didn't go running when it was like this.

Looks! Gloves and a jacket! That was Thursday morning. The warm weather is on its way back and the fires are about under control.

PS I haven't been able to work out much as I got 2 shots this week. (One in each arm!) I'll be sharing about it soon!

PSS I am having hot flashes this week! I thought I was going to escape them only having a couple every now and then.

Love to you all!

Mental Health Outing

I love being in the outdoors and camping is one thing we have always done since hubby and I dated over 32 years ago. I always think of it as a mental health retreat. Good for mind and body.

We are going on vacation this fall and wanted to "practice" tenting. We've had a trailer or camper for several years but won't be taking either of those on our vacation.
This is where we pitched our tent. This is the same tent we used 30+ years ago too!!
Through the trees behind the tent was a river and the first day we saw a gray egret.  See him flying away from me right over the water? We also watched a beautiful bald eagle looking for supper over the lake.
Here's where we launched our little boat and did some fishing.  It looks cool but it was very hot!
South Sisters on the left. We climbed this last August. It was grueling but fantastic!

We were filthy by the time we left and we only stayed two nights. How did our practice tenting go? Don't run 14.2 miles in a training run then sleep on the ground. Every muscle hurt the next morning. Our vacation? I'd really like a state park that has showers and flushing toilets. Yea, getting old has made me soft.

Do you like to camp?

Burning Calories & Having Fun!

According to Livestrong.com you can burn up to 550 calories an hour snowshoeing!!
It was a fun way to do it too! Especially when it's snowing and when you are with your girlfriends!!

Mental Health Day

Sometimes it is so nice to get out of town, away from chores, the neighborhood noise, and the tv.

We made our way to Walton Lake for an afternoon out.
Haha, I managed to pull together a little project to stitch on....while hubby fished! That's a  pole sticking out of my houses! lol
Always up for a hike around the lake. I love the huge ponderosa pine trees. This one was amazing!
Our dog, Porter really enjoyed his day out too.

Ready to tackle the week!!

August 12, 2012

This is a great advertising ploy by Nike, but I LOVE this concept! I don't usually put videos on here, but I thought it was good enough to share!
Love this photo!
"The idea behind 'Find Your Greatness' is simply to inspire and energize everyday athletes everywhere to celebrate their achievements, participate and enjoy the thrill of achieving in sport at their own level," said Greg Hoffman, Nike VP of Brand Design & Communications. "Nike’s co-founder Bill Bowerman said, 'If you have a body you're an athlete,' and that's a really compelling insight for all athletes as we celebrate great sporting moments this summer."

GREATNESS IS AUGUST 12!

Comfortable Feels Good

Wow! This photo sums up what I was going to write about today. Just when we think we are moving right along, doing wonderful...kabam!  Something happens that makes us realize we've been in a comfortable space, not stretching our abilities, physically or mentally.

I like the comfort zone, but I want to keep reaching outside of it.
I know I'll never be an Olympian but watching them sure is inspiring. What a wonderful lesson I'm reminded of this week as changes have been made and I look outside my comfort zone.
Are you inside or outside your comfort zone?

Find your comfort zone. Then leave it!

Keeping Balance

We had such a beautiful morning today. It was a reminder for me to remember to see the little things in life. Sometimes I get so focused on a bigger goal it is easy to lose sight of the everyday simple things that makes my life beautiful.

My flower garden makes me smile. My hubby has been doing an awesome job of watering and weeding while I've been out and about on my quilting adventures.

Hiking

We had an awesome day for hiking on Sunday. We chose a place that wasn't too far to drive. So many people think of Oregon as wet and green. Here is typical high desert where I live in Oregon. We get only about 10" precipitation a year.

The Deschutes river is a popular place for fly fishing.

I love this photo. Because no cars can go on this "road" we saw a lot of fishermen and fisherwomen riding bikes. It seems a little tricky with the waders on!
My new hiking boots have 6 miles on them now.  Trying to get them broke in before the big hike in August.

I'm not very good at photoshop, but it was fun changing these up a little.
