Today's morning smoothie:
Kale and spinach (kale alone is too bitter for me)
Mango
peach
carrots
banana (makes it smooth)
protein powder
ground flax seed.
I liked today's more than yesterdays.
Flax seed has many benefits. But in order to reap the benefits it must be ground. You can purchase it ground but it tends to go rancid faster. I buy a bag of whole flax seed and keep it in my freezer.
When I want to use some, I clean out my coffee grinder.
Pour in the seeds.
And grind. I actually leave them in my grinder and take out a few tsp to add to my smoothie.
Try some today!
- Omega-3 essential fatty acids, "good" fats that have been shown to have heart-healthy effects. Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s.
- Lignans, which have both plant estrogen and antioxidant qualities. Flaxseed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods.
- Fiber. Flaxseed contains both the soluble and insoluble types.
That's a great idea. I have an old coffee grinder that never gets used. I have been using hemp seeds and chia seeds in my smoothies too.
ReplyDeleteA friend told me I should soak the nuts first - anyone else do this?
ReplyDeleteI've never ground them. The coffee grinder is a good way to go!
