National Peanut Butter Lover’s Month

I think this was November and I forgot to post this! Any month is a good month to love peanut butter!
I love peanut butter! But try not to eat as much as I'd like to. 
10 Fun facts about peanut Butter
1. Americans consume close to 800 million pounds of peanut butter annually, about three pounds for every man, woman and child!
2. Despite their name, pea-nuts are technically legumes (like beans), not nuts.
3. One acre of peanuts will make 30,000 peanut butter sandwiches.
4. Peanuts are a new world food, most likely originating in Brazil and working their way up to Mexico. The Aztecs mashed them into a paste as early as 500 years ago.
5. 75% of homes in the US have a peanut butter jar; 94% of Americans eat peanut butter.
6. 60% of the peanuts in the US are grown in Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. Half are used for peanut butter.
7. Peanuts are rich in healthy monounsaturated fats, which help reduce the risk of heart disease.
8. Peanut butter is a good source of  protein with 8 grams in a serving of 2 tablespoons. That’s 16% of the recommended daily value.
9. While some people fear a 2 tbsp serving of peanut butter with 190 calories is too much, the protein and healthy fat combination will actually a person satiated much longer than many lower calorie snacks made of refined carbs.
10. Archibutyrophobia (dare you to pronounce it) is … wait for it … the fear of getting peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth!
Buying Peanut Butter:
Buy peanut butter with one ingredient: Peanuts. If you must, salt can be an ingredient as well. Avoid peanut butter with added sugars or hydrogenated oils

  1. I agree, any month is a good month for peanut butter! I've switched to mostly almond butter over the last year, but peanut butter is right up there on the list.

  3. Hi Lori..... Have you ever tried the PB2 powdered peanut butter? It is pretty good tasting actually. 2 TBSP provides 45 calories of which 13 are from fat. One drawback...it does have sugar and salt added but even so the total carbs in 1 serving is 5g with sugars being 1g. I'm curious what you think about it or if you've ever heard of it or tried it.

    1. Brenda, you are noreply so I have no way of contacting you. I have tried PB2 and wasn't thrilled with it, but think it would be a great addition to smoothies to add the peanut butter taste without the calories.
