Muffintop

There is nothing pretty or sexy about this! As we age and enter the stage of perimenopause or menopause our shape seems to shift to the muffintop!
Important things to remember:
As we age we lose muscle mass, which in turns slows our metabolism. We need to strength train to keep our bones healthy and our metabolism revved up. (The more muscle we have the more calories we burn!)
Take a calcium supplement.
Decrease your carbohydrate and fat intake.
Move more! 30 minutes several times a week is good but any amount of moving is beneficial.
Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

When my garden was full of salad makings I didn't have a problem with this. When fruits and veggies are not in season it is harder for me to get as many servings as I'd like or need. Thanks for leaving the great tips!!
Feel free to share any other fruit or veggie tricks or recipes. I'll happily add them to the site.

I have to say I feel like I had a great week although I didn't meet my goals. This was the first time in a month I haven't hit 150 minutes of purposeful activity. I'm going to be traveling this coming week, so I'm not sure if I'll make it this week either. I'll do the best I can do and not beat myself up about it.
Move more and move forward!
So, how was your week?

  1. I made it to three sessions of cardio workout this week and only had one "treat" (an oatmeal cranberry cookie.) So overall not bad...best of all I finally got into a pair of jean one size smaller...whoo hooo! Two months of work to get there but I got there!

  2. Oh dear, that looks a bit too familiar. I am getting in plenty of cardio and a bit a weight work but would like to up the weights a bit. I am very conscious of my posture these days, really trying to stand up straight and hold my shoulders back. It certainly was easier when I was younger but I refuse to give up.

  3. Still having trouble getting in activity. I have been struggling with arthritis in most all of my joints and my Dr. told recently no more anti-inflammatories at all, no aleve or advil. Tylenol just doesn't do it for me. Yuck.
On the plus side, I too just got into jeans that I had outgrown so I am very happy about that.

Made it to cardio yesterday, but this week is going to be a challenge with my schedule -
try, try that's all we can do.
