"OK, Now...That's Something I CAN DO!"

This week we talked about goal setting. Regularly setting, achieving, and celebrating short term goals can help us stay motivated on the journey to our weight goal.

If you are just starting:
SET YOUR FIRST GOAL

This may be 10% of your starting weight, it may be 5%, it may be to get under 200 pounds. It may be to be able to button your pants!! This is personal, but set a reasonable first goal and write it down. Take ownership of it!

Hopefully after reaching your first goal you will be inspired to keep going.
THINK ABOUT, AND SET YOUR NEXT GOAL
Small steps get us where we want to go.

CELEBRATE EACH SUCCESS
Don't celebrate by fixing your favorite chocolate cake!! Make it a non food celebration; earrings, a new purse, a new blouse or a visit to the spa. You get the idea. Take time to reflect on what you have accomplished and reassess what your next step is.

Make sure when you are setting a goal to keep this in mind.

State it in the positive- what do you want, not what you don't want. (I want to be healthy, NOT I don't want to feel like a blob anymore)

Be specific- Healthy is good, but what does that look like to you? Getting off medication, playing on the floor with your kids or grand kids, etc.

Is it within your control? Does somebody have to change in order for you to accomplish that? You cannot change others, only yourself.

Is it a good fit with your life? Keep it realistic.

"People with goals succeed because they know where they're going."~Earl Nightingale
