It's Your Life- Take Charge

It's been 7 weeks since I resigned from weight watchers. I've been trying to figure out what I can do outside of the meeting room to help people reach their goals and take charge of their life.

It sounds so obvious but one thing that I always come back to is that it is MY choice to eat healthy or eat junk. It's MY choice to exercise and live an active lifestyle or not.
I have refocused my goal setting and wanted to share on my blog and invite you along.

At the beginning of 2010 my doctor told me my sugar levels were a little high- nothing to be too concerned about. She suggested I watch my sugar intake and lose a couple of pounds. I am at a healthy weight according to the BMI calculator and have been for 9 years now. But, even I realize that I can be healthier. Here we are in August and I haven't gained weight, but I haven't lost weight either.

Before embarking on any journey it is helpful to ask, Why do I want this? Is it important to me?
Make your answers detailed and write them down. Later on you need to be able to remember why you started this in the first place.

Two weeks ago I set some weekly goals for myself. I want to share these goals with you and challenge you to set some yourself.

Do aerobic activity 150 minutes week. This may not sound like much, but even though I've met this goal it isn't as easy as it sounds. If your goal is some type of activity make sure it is a good fit with your life. When I start losing weight my goal was 60 minutes a week.

Drink more water. I don't like water and I'm not keeping track of how much. I'm just making sure I'm drinking plenty.

Take a vitamin every day.

Strength train with free weights. My goal is 3 x week.

Close the kitchen 2 hours before bedtime. Food is energy and I don't need energy to sleep!

Are you ready to make some positive changes? Do you need some accountability? Feel free to post your goals in the comment section or send me an email. Make your goals realistic and achievable!!

I'll check in on the weekend and share my progress and you can do the same.

Anybody?

I have followed your quilt blog for awhile and I am happy to see this post. Last August, I picked up a magazine called Clean Eating and it has changed a lot for me. I have never really been overweight but I had fallen into a pattern of not taking care of myself over the last few years - letting the job rule my days, not exercising or eating well. I wonder if you might consider doing some challenges here for those of us who love the community motivation factor?

  3. Start to exercise: Begin with 20-30 minutes on the treadmill five days per week.

  4. I've been sitting at my computer all morning telling myself to get up and take a walk so your post is an omen. I lost 40 pounds two years ago and kept it off until recently. About 20 have crept back because I stopped exercising and doing yoga regularly. So, ENOUGH already. Your goals are exactly what I would set but I will add: get to yoga three days a week. P.S. At least I love water. I am off to take my walk. Thanks for the motivation!

  5. I'll be 50 in March, and I'm starting menopause, so if I'm going to get my weight to a healthier place and increase my strength and stamina, I'd better start working on it now. I recently read an article that said menopausal women need to get vigorous exercise for at least an hour a day in order to lose weight. So my goals right now are to get that exercise at least 3X a week and work up to 5-6X, and to make fruits, vegetables, and beans my main food sources.

  6. I too left WW, I left back in April. I wasn't "feeling it" anymore and another job offer came along that paid "real money". I've been to a few meetings, haven't weighed in since I left, but have only put on 2 or 3 pounds. I've started walking again...and got a puppy to make me do it! I used to love to walk the dog, but stopped when our last dog passed away. It was time to start again, so last week we got Daisy and I've been walking her constantly.

  7. I have followed your quilting blog for a while. I joined Weight Watchers last week and I'm going with a co-worker on Wednesday for our first meeting together. She has been on WW many times, I think she has a bit of the yo-yo thing going on. But we're going to try to get going together. I need all the help I can get! I don't think I overeat, I just tend to make the wrong choices.

  8. Hi Lori, I didn't realise you had this blog too. I have been doing WW online since the beginning of the year and have lost 12 kg but have come to a stand still over the last two months. I think
Winter has a bit to do with it and I know my old eating habits are setting back in. I am going to follow you on this blog and use it for inspiration and motivation to get me back to tracking what I eat and make myself exercise more. Thank you!

  9. Hi Lori
I'm looking forward to following this blog - thanks for the encouragement!
I try to life a healthy lifestyle and its reaffirming to hear from someone else who does too.
I switched from sugar in the coffee (can't live without the sweetness) to Agave syrup. It has a super low glycemic index, even people with diabetes can use it. I buy it cheap at trader joes, but my stop and shop carries it too.
off to walk the dog...I usually do Zumba today, but it's rainy and I have a headache - tomorrow for sure.

I jumped onto the healthy train about 4 weeks ago...three times a week I go to Silver sneakers at the Y...my DH and I walk 3 miles on Saturdays...we are having two meatless days a week...I fill a large container with water and put it in the fridge each morning and try to drink it all during the day...eliminated all artificial sweeteners...take a multivitamin.

Found this blog through your quilting blog. QB did it! Now have goals written down. Used yours as a guide. Checked the BMI. yes, in the overweight category. ouch I am a junk food snacker and need to make better food choices. A new exercise bike just arrived at our house and I will use it. Drinking the water makes such a difference. Thanks for writing this blog. Ardis in Oregon

  12. Been following your quilting blog for a little while, didn't know you had this blog too! I have been at WW for 9 weeks and lost 16 #. I went in 1998 and reached goal. I later stopped doing all the things that made me successful and gained all the weight back plus about 50# more. I am doing well with the eating part foir now, but I struggle with the activity part due to lots of joint pain. I will figure out my goals and come along. I really do not care for QB.
