One of my favorite parts in the book is this:
What if all Americans:
- Ate a large bowl of green salad daily
- Had a large serving of steamed greens daily
- Ate a cup of beans daily
- had at least an ounce of raw seeds and nuts daily
- Ate at least three fresh fruits daily
- Had some tomatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, herbs, and garlic daily.
What I do like is he said if you can eat nutritionally 90% of the time we'd all be a whole lot better off then we are now.
I agree! Instead of asking "What if all Americans ate....." I asked myself,
What if I:
- Ate a large bowl of green salad daily
- Had a large serving of steamed greens daily
- Ate a cup of beans daily
- had at least an ounce of raw seeds and nuts daily
- Ate at least three fresh fruits daily
- Had some tomatoes, peppers, onions, mushrooms, herbs, and garlic daily.
Except for the tomatoes which we have eliminated due to the inflammation factor, I think we do pretty well with this list. Happy eating!
ReplyDeleteI agree with this idea, but I need to have all things cooked. I've had to eliminate all sugars, esp. high fructose corn syrup, and acidic foods from my diet, and I'm maintaining my wt. I think if we eliminated a lot of the sugars and fat that we eat, we'd all be healthier. It's not about dieting, it is about eating healthy. Just look at the stores at every holiday, all the candy that is being featured. And I used to be a chocoholic, and baked a lot. Now I have more time for quilting, since I only bake my own bread so I can regulate the sugar.
