Criss Cross Applesauce

Last time I shared my produce box on this blog I had a small bag of apples. Well, I do know apples are not being harvested right now, so I figured they had been stored for awhile. I really only like crunchy and crisp apples so I made some home made applesauce with them. I cook them until they are soft, then use a potato masher and add a little cinnamon. Delish!!

You can use this fresh applesauce to bake too!!

  1. Good idea! I bought apples a few days ago and they're so old they're tough! I fell for the bright yellow and cool name. Opal Sweet.

  3. I live near an orchard. They have an excellent storage barn and I have found several varieties that held up well. For crisp and crankiness. Braeburn,Melrose, and Granny Smiths are excellent choices. Got a tip from them for storing when I got my bag home. Transfer apples to a plastic bag, wet a paper towel and place inside the bag. Seal with a twist tie. They last so much longer what way! I get great apples from August thru April every year. Yum!

  6. We have two very old apple trees in our back pasture. One still gifts us with fruit, which we share with the deer.
I have made applesauce from the fruit which always turns out delicious.!
